Lotus Elise Series 1 / Series 2 / Series 3 / Exige Series 1 / Series 2 Track Rod End / Ball Joint.

These components commonly wear on the Elise and Exige and can result in an MOT failure if the rubber dust boots are split or deteriorated.

To inspect for wear, raise the front wheels off the ground and gently turn the steering wheel a few centimetres from side to side while holding the road wheel. There should be very little movement in the steering wheel before the wheel itself begins to move.

If there is noticeable free play, the cause may be one of the following:

Steering rack

Steering column universal joints (UJ)

Track rod ends

If you feel movement in the rack track control arm with little or no movement at the steering arm or track rod end, this usually indicates the track rod end is worn and should be replaced.

Price is for one track rod end supplied with a nyloc nut.

Note: Each vehicle uses two track rod ends (one per side), so replacements are often performed in pairs to maintain consistent steering performance.
